SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27

and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Designating March 2 as "Read Across West Virginia Day".

Whereas, There is no greater contribution to the education of
West Virginia's children than to instill in them a love of reading;
and

Whereas, Theodore Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) has been
instrumental in introducing generations of youngsters to the joys
of reading through his words and illustrations that take readers on
magical journeys through whimsical worlds with zany characters,
like a top-hatted cat and strange-colored fish; and

Whereas, The birth date of Dr. Seuss, March 2, is an
appropriate day to promote the joy and value of reading at an early
age to West Virginia's young people; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates March 2 as "Read Across West
Virginia Day", with the hope that all West Virginia's children will
take interest in reading; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate recognizes March 2 as the
birthday of Dr. Seuss, whose colorful illustrations and zany
characters have brought an interest in reading to young people
around the world; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the appropriate representatives of the
Department of Education and the West Virginia Education
Association.
